The meaning and origin of ASTRID AVA-ALLORA

ASTRID

The girl's name Astrid is pronounced AS-trid. It is of Old Norse origin, and the meaning of Astrid is "fair, beautiful, goddness". It is a Scandinavian name. It is use in the English-speaking world influenced by 20th-century Queen Astrid of the Belgians.

While Astrid has 10 variant forms: Assa, Assi, Asta, Astra, Astri, Astride, Astrud, Astryr, Atti and Estrid.

Meanwhile, baby names that sound like Astrid are Astria, Asteria and Astrea.

Astrid is a very common first name for women but an uncommon last name for both men and women.

AVA

The girl's name Ava also used as boy's name Ava, pronounced AY-vah. It is of uncertain origin, probably German and the meaning of Ava is "sky, heaven".

Other possible sources are the Hebrew name Chava meaning “bearer of life" or "bearer of good news", or from Latin "avis" meaning "like a bird". It is also possibly a variant of Avis or Aveline, medieval given names. Saint Ava or Avia was a ninth-century abbess of Dinart in Hainault and a member of the Frankish royal family. In contemporary usage, some forms may be intended as phonetic variants of Eva and Evelyn. Ava has its origins in the Persian language and it is used largely in Iranian meaning "voice, song, sound".

Ava has 7 variant forms: Avah, Avalee, Avelina, Aveline, Avelyn, Avis and Avlynn.

Baby names that sound like Ava are Ave and Iva.

Ava is also a very common first name for women but an uncommon last name for both men and women.

ALLORA

The name Allora was used by Italian meaning “ well, so, OK, why, then, now, in that case, at that time, therefore, in those days” which was pronounced al"lora. For example; Allora, che cosa c'รจ di nuovo? – (So, what's new?) Or La bambina era allora chiamata da tutti gattina per la sua dolcezza. (At that time, the child was called "kittie" by everybody because of her sweetness).

The Only Rose Among The Thorns!

On 1st of September, Lola went to visit her new school. The teachers were so friendly. Students were also friendly. When they saw Lola, they welcomed her saying ‘Hi’ while waving their hands. In fact, the school was okay after second visits...well; parents were fussy with cleanliness when it comes to their children health. On 2nd of September, it official that Lola has moved to a new school. Well, there is a lot of dissatisfaction at the first nursery.

On her first day, I was empting her bag and noticed that Lola had only once had her nappy changed. This has happened several times. When I changed the nappy it was bulging with pee but I tell them nothing. I‘m afraid they would do something bad to Lola. Also, I noticed that they didn’t feed her enough milk. I can tell from her weight and the way she suckle the bottles likes she never had her milk for a day. I told and remind them every morning to wake her up when she’s asleep for a long period of time but looks like they don’t even heard a single word. Besides, Lola’s colds and phlegm were getting worse day by day. Once, I’ve requested them to put Lola’s outside the babies’ room and they said they would put her in a room with no air-conditioned, but still they put her in the usual room with fan and air-conditioner on. For almost a month, Lola’s cold shows no sign of getting well.

That’s why we decided to move Lola to a new school. There are only 3 other babies and all of them are boys. Lola is the only girl among them as teacher Hana said she’s the only rose among the thorns. Every time I pick her up on the evening, she was so happy and keeps smiling when teacher Hana talks to her. No more miserable unhappy face. And what makes me so happy is that her colds and phlegm was getting better. I know my daughter gets all she needs while I’m away to work. Although, moving to another school is the option that parents could choose but worries is always there as parents hoping the best for their children.

Lola First Day of Nursery

"Poor Little Lola," said my colleagues when I announced that our 4-month-old daughter would be going to nursery.  On 10th of August my husband and I forced to send Lola, dressed in pink towards the nursery to start her first day fighting for attention in a room with eight other babies.

Photographs of smiling children plastered the walls and toys were scattered on the floor. Women, called themselves "teacher" busy with their new charges prepared to take Lola from us.  She looked at her "substitute mother" with tears when we left.

The substitute nursery mother told me that Lola was coping with the change as she told me Lola was never stopped crying on her first day.  When I arrived to pick her up on the first evening, her face was covered with miserable unhappy face.

But how easily Lola settle and coping with the new situation? It would probably takes time as she has not developed the "attachment issues" and will show little concern at being left with strangers.  I was scared at first leaving my baby to someone "unknown" but thinking positive help me a lot.  One of the positives about nursery is that children become adaptable and flexible.  So I expect things would be much easier for her and for us soon.

Baby Lola was Born

2:57 a.m. (9th April 2010)

I had difficulties to sleep that night ‘til I found out what exactly was bothering me. I know it’s time for us to pack our stuff heading to the clinic.

I was admitted at 1:00 p.m. and waited for almost 7 hours before a nurse took me to the labour room at 8:00 p.m. One hour later the process begun. After 33 minutes struggling...I had our lovely baby on my arms! It was really a great experienced I had.

At 10:33 p.m. our baby was born through normal delivery with her weight 3.3KGs.

Special thanks to Dr. Felice and the rest of Kota Kinabalu Specialist Centre’s staff for their help during the long process.

To my hubby, I really glad to have you there...
